How should church members have tried to find out what Jesus would have done in their situations?

I’ve been studying the book, “In His Steps” by Charles Sheldon for a couple weeks, and in it, Church members start asking themselves, “What would Jesus do in my situation?”

Most members start to act without thinking about it. For example, someone owning a newspaper which contained prize fights, scandals, disasters and the like, dropped all those subjects (which are what the general public wants) and posted essays on shutting down taverns. The reason he did this is that he just thought those were bad subjects to put on his newspaper and that Jesus wouldn’t do that.

What I think they should have done would be to consult the pastor, think about what the Bible says about it, and then act upon what the bible says. It also would be good to pray about it.

What do you think they should have done?
